Early-Career Researchers Shaping the Future of Measurement Science – An IMEKO-WYSM Special Session
TECHNICAL OUTLINE
Measurement science can play a driving role in addressing scientific and technological challenges shaping the near future, including artificial intelligence (AI), space exploration, climate change, energy transition, smart agriculture, quantum technologies, robotics, cybersecurity, and equitable healthcare for all. These domains call for fresh multidisciplinary metrological perspectives and strategies, such as distributed and pervasive sensing, sensor fusion, digital twins, advanced methods for data analysis and uncertainty quantification, explainable and trustworthy AI for measurement, and digital metrology infrastructures.
This Special Session welcomes original contributions exploring how measurement science can anticipate and address these future technological challenges. Contributions are invited across theoretical, methodological, and application-oriented domains, including innovative measurement concepts, sensing and instrumentation solutions, data-centric and AI-enabled approaches, digital metrology frameworks, and interdisciplinary methodologies capable of advancing the role of metrology in emerging domains.
The Special Session is sponsored by the newly established IMEKO Working Group for Young Scientists in Measurements (IMEKO-WYSM), created to advance young researchers’ activities, enhance their visibility and representation, and foster collaboration and community building. It is open to all early-career researchers under the age of 40 (including Ph.D. candidates, post-docs, assistant professors, and equivalent positions), and encourages submissions from young scientists and professionals acting as Principal Investigator (PI), co-PI, or leading research activities within national and international projects, recognizing their capacity to independently lead and deliver original results. This Session turns the IMEKO-WYSM mission into action: a space where young scientists do not just contribute to measurement science, but help shape its future direction.
