Building-Scale Sensing and Monitoring through Advanced Remote Sensing Technologies
TECHNICAL OUTLINE
Building-scale remote sensing has emerged as a key research domain enabled by advances in high-resolution Earth Observation, UAV-based sensing, active and passive imaging systems, and data fusion methodologies. Modern sensing technologies allow the extraction of detailed information on building geometry, materials, energy performance, structural condition, and environmental interactions, supporting applications ranging from urban management to cultural heritage conservation and digital twin development. This Special Issue aims to collect original research and review papers addressing innovative methodologies, sensor technologies, data integration frameworks, and applications for building-scale monitoring and characterization.
Potential research questions of interest for the Special Issue:
– How can multi-sensor remote sensing improve building condition assessment?
– What are the challenges of integrating UAV, ground-based, and satellite observations at the building scale?
– How can SAR and LiDAR jointly contribute to structural health monitoring?
– How can remote sensing support digital twin generation and updating?
– Which sensing technologies are most effective for energy performance diagnostics?
– What is the role of AI in automating building-scale monitoring?
