Metrology for Trusted Digital Product Passports and Dataspaces
TECHNICAL OUTLINE
Dataspaces and the digital product passport (DPP) are changing rapidly how companies ensure quality and disclose product information – from manually researching requirements, filling out forms, and sending documents, to automatically discovering all relevant product requirements and providing requested product data to authorized parties. The ultimate goal is for data consumers (users, service providers, recyclers, authorities) to be able to instantly retrieve granular product information from available business data via a global data ecosystem.
If done well, the digital transformation in metrology and the DPP development can be highly synergetic. On the one hand, DPPs can benefit from the trust and quality that metrology and the wider quality infrastructure provide, given that the DPP system accounts for the relevant actors and services. On the other hand, if the metrology community aligns its services and IT infrastructure with the emerging DPP system, it can foster a more efficient and sustainable economy. Particularly, this entails the consequent adoption of machine-interpretable documents and the creation of international metrology dataspaces.
This session will present concepts for the interconnection of digital metrology and the DPP, highlight important first use cases, discuss priorities and timelines for the different stake holders, and identify open research gaps.
The session will be grouped into three topical areas:
1. Trustworthy measurement data;
2. Interoperable digital metrology/QI infrastructure; and
3. Real DPP use cases and open research gaps.
