The IMEKO World Congress 2027 will be an exceptional event for sharing the latest advancements and concepts across various research areas related to the IMEKO TCs.
The Congress is also committed to promoting excellence and innovation through Special Sessions that focus on specialized and emerging topics related to the main Congress theme.
These sessions provide conference attendees with a unique perspective on research topics that are not typically covered in the standard tracks. It is important that these sessions differ significantly from the main tracks. Special attention should be given to the scientific relevance, coherence, and originality of the proposed topic, as well as the qualifications and experience of the organizers and potential authors.
Prospective organizers of a Special Session at the IMEKO World Congress 2027 should carefully follow the guidelines below:
- Number of Special Sessions: An individual can serve as (co-) organizer of up to two (2) Special Sessions.
- Affiliation of Organizers: Special Sessions aim to bring together researchers from different institutions and countries. For this reason, it is recommended that proposals involve organizers from different institutions or countries.
- Number of Special Session Organizers: each Special Session shall have a maximum of three (3) organizers
- Special Session Program Committee (Reviewers): the proposal must also include a list of possible Reviewers (minimum 5)
- Topics Definition: The proposal should contain an outline of the Special Session research topics. Please take into account that the IMEKO 2027 World Congress will consider Special Sessions that either
- have an interdisciplinary content, explicitly involving multiple IMEKO Technical Committees (TCs), or
- focus on a novel and rather specific research topic that is not clearly included in any IMEKO TC.
List of potential contributions
A Special Session proposal should preferably include a preliminary list of potential contributing authors along with their emails and affiliations.
Invited Speaker
A Special Session proposal may include at most one (1) Invited Speaker. Accordingly, each Special Session is limited to a single Invited Speaker, if any. No paper submission is required from the Invited Speaker.
In case the organisers would like to propose an Invited Speaker, they must provide the following information:
- Tentative title of the talk
- Short biography of the speaker
- An email confirming the acceptance and commitment of the Invited Speaker
Please note that the Invited Speaker slot for a Special Session is conditional upon at least eight (8) papers being accepted and presented within that session. If this minimum requirement is not met, the Invited Speaker slot may not be confirmed.
Approval of a Special Session
After the Special Session proposal deadline, the Special Session Coordinators will evaluate all the proposals.
If two or more proposals cover similar or overlapped topics, the Special Session Coordinators, in consultation with the Technical Program Chairs, may propose merging the proposals into a single Special Session, while retaining both original proponents.
Once a proposal has been approved, organisers must:
- Prepare a brief Call for Papers using the provided template to be posted on the Conference website.
- Advertise the Special Session to attract high-quality papers from researchers and practitioners.
Evaluation of submitted papers
Papers submitted to special sessions will undergo the same review process as regular papers.
The special session chairs of the respective special session are responsible for organising a peer-review process, ensuring that at least 2 consistent reviews per paper are received.
To schedule a standalone session at the IMEKO World Congress 2027, an adequate number of papers must be accepted after the review process; otherwise, the accepted papers shall be included in the regular TC sessions depending on their topics.
